What If…?
What if today is the day that everything goes right? What if today is the day that I convert all of my talent into skill and peak performance? How can I set my day up for that kind of success?
I’m going to start by devoting my time and attention to my non-negotiable priorities so I can identify and eliminate distractions from my daily schedule, because my talent gets wasted when I get distracted. I want to show up each day ready to perform with impeccable focus and relentless effort.
Accountability is the standard that you hold yourself to, because how you do anything is how you do everything. I want to do everything with unshakable faith in myself, audacity in the face of uncertainty, and integrity in the face of temptation and distraction. That’s my standard for accountability.
Talent gets wasted when people get distracted. My most frequent distraction is “What if…?” “What if something goes wrong?” “What if someone doesn’t like my work?” “What if nobody cares about my work?” When I get distracted, and my talent goes to waste, that’s how it happens.
I need to make “What if?” work for me. I need to transform “What if?” from a distraction to the rallying cry that gives me focus. “What if today is the day that everything goes right?”
What if today is the day that I do everything with unshakable faith, audacity, and integrity? What if today is the day I transform all of my talent into skill and peak performance? What if today is the day I make a meaningful contribution to the flourishing of my community?
This is not wishful thinking, it is a strategy. My talent gets wasted when I get distracted. When I focus my time and attention on the optimal expression of my talent, I unleash that optimal expression. When I unleash that optimal expression, I find wellbeing, and I contribute to the flourishing of my community.
That’s what I’m going to do, and I’m going to do that every day. That is how I am going to set my days up for success. Why would I do anything else? Why would anyone do anything else?
Why would anyone distract themselves with everything that could go wrong when they could focus on everything that could go right, then devote their time and attention to creating the conditions that allow everything to go right?
